Suparna Ghosh (Rupa) is a Rabindra sangeet singer, widely hailed in Bengali community in Houston area, as one of the most versatile exponents of this musical genre. She is often known as her nickname Rupa. Born and raised in Chittagong, Bangladesh.

Rupa started her musical training under the guidance of Ustad Nirmalendu Chowdhury at the age of five and also Arya Sangeet Samity at Chittagong (a well-known Sangeet Vidyapeeth in Bangladesh, established in 1880’s). Subsequently she took formal classical training under the tutelages of Ustad Nirod Baron Barua (Bangladesh) and Pandit Manas Chakraborty (Kolkata) for more than fifteen years.

Her true affection with Tagore songs strengthened under the loving care of Ustad Mihir Nandi and Shila Momen (Ex-students of Santiniketan). Rupa also took special music lessons from renowned musicologist Smt. Sanjida Khatun (Founder and president of Chhayanaut, Dhaka), Smt. Pratima Sur (Santiniketan) and renowned Tagore legend Sadi Mohammod. Besides her music training, Rupa holds a Master of Arts (MA) degree in English Literature from National University, Bangladesh.

She is a proud recipient of several prestigious awards including Sur Saptak Sangeet Biddwapith Padak in 1992 and 1993, Sangeet Acharya Surandralal Dash Memorial Gold Medal in 1996, Best Tagore Singer Padak from Chittagong academy in 1999 and many more ‘Outstanding Performance Awards’ from Bangladesh and USA based different organizations.  She also got first place in the National (Bangladesh) Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan and Competition -1992 and 1996. She was a regular Rabindra Sangeet artist in Bangladesh Betar and Chittagong TV.

Her recent engagements include teaching of budding singers and adolescents with classical as well as Rabindra Sangeet. She operates ‘Surangan Music School’ with a vision and commitment of carrying out authentic Rabindra Sangeets in Houston area.

Her mission is to create, teach and encourage Bengali Cultural through ‘Music’ to our new generation, who are born and brought up in USA.
